It’s ski season, and we’re here to remind you that when you’re skiing, remember to relax and unwind. After all, it is a holiday! Ski holidays are exciting, and when you know you only have a week to enjoy the slopes, it’s very tempting to get on the slopes when the lifts open, ski all day, and then hit après-ski. Eat, ski, rave, repeat, right? However, you have to remember that a ski holiday, is still a holiday, and you’re allowed to relax. Here are some tips on what you can do to get some rest and relaxation on your ski holiday.
It’s not the law that you have to get on the slopes as soon at the lifts open, you’re allowed to have a snooze. Plus, there are a few benefits to this. If you’re staying in a hotel, you’ll miss rush hour at breakfast and in the boot-room. Who enjoys elbowing their way to the locker? Get that extra hour in bed, and hit the slopes a little later.
If you’ve had a day on the slopes, you could finish a little early and hit the hot-tub or sauna. The heat will be great on your aching limbs, plus you’ll get some peace and quiet away from the business of the slopes. There may even be a pool you can access in your hotel or chalet. Swimming is a great way to work your body and get in a bit of meditation at the same time. Click here to find the chalets on ChaletFinder with a spa!
If you have hit the pistes early, then there is no shame in taking an extended break and enjoying a coffee or two, maybe even a snack in one of the piste-side cafes. You can put your feet up, refuel and soak in the views. Sunbathing on the slopes with a coffee in hand is peak relaxation.
Explore the resort you’re in and go shopping. It’s nice to enjoy the local culture, and buy some local cuisine. Or maybe you fancy some new ski gear, or nice alpine clothing. Shopping really is great for a soul, and it gives you something to take home and remember the holiday by. You could even get a few gifts for your loved ones.
What did we say?! Yes, we told you, ski for half the day. If you’re tired, then you’re allowed to stop. Skiing is hard work on the body, especially if you don’t do it all the time, so it’s ok to take it easy. Plus, we all know that ski boots aren’t the comfiest and it’s nice to take them off a bit earlier than usual.
If your chalet or hotel has a balcony, the likelihood is that it will overlook a beautiful snow covered mountain. Put some layers on, go into the fresh air and enjoy the view (perhaps with a glass of wine).
