The ski area in Andorra known as Grandvalira boasts the largest ski area in the rugged mountains of the Pyrenees, with a wide selection of chalets, hotels and apartments. Grandvalira consists of six areas, which range from the high-rise party village of Pas de la Casa to the remote and cosy Grau Roig. There is plenty of snowfall in Andorra, making the ski conditions perfect for your holiday. The region has even invested in snow-making facilities, so if the weather doesn’t deliver, plenty of snow can be created. For several years the World Cup ski racing has been held in the resort of Soldeu, so the skiing must be good!
In its 130-mile ski area, there are many slopes to cater to all levels of skiing, especially beginners and intermediates. There are also high-quality ski schools which means that this resort is great for a family friendly holiday and new skiers. There are also plenty of black runs, and some excellent off-piste skiing areas. However, it’s not always about the skiing, as there are so many other activities to try. Snowmobile rides through the forests in Soldeu, dog sledding in El Tartar, and snowshoeing in Canillo are amongst the many activities you can have a go at. For those chasing the adrenaline rush, you can also try tubbing in Grau Roig, or the 40-metre zip line in Canillo. Andorra is also a duty-free enclave, and so package prices, eating out and skiing are all affordable.
Of course, an important part of a ski holiday, is the Aprés ski. If you want a chilled glass of vino, or a party sesh, there is something for everyone. You can even relax in a hammock with a cold one on the terrace of a bar in El Tartar. Soak up the stunning views whilst enjoying a drink, or boogying to a DJ.
There are plenty of restaurants and bars to enjoy in Andorra. From Catalan specialities, Argentinian steakhouses, and Mexican food, it caters for all your needs. In Soldeu, Fat Alberts is the ever popular skier’s favourite. On the mountain you can enjoy a glass of champagne at Veuve Cliquot, whilst enjoying the beautiful scenery. Pas de la Casa offers fondues, steaks, pizzas, and burgers so you’ll never go hungry, and on the mountain the stunning KSB Coll Blanc restaurant’s views are to die for and with great music playing it’s a great place to head for a mountain coffee or drink.
