It’s the time of year where the Christmas tree has come down, and we’re all thinking about how to shift the figgy pudding from our waistlines. You might even feel a little bit like this snowman. We’re all back in the office, and it’s no wonder that January can feel a little dismal. Well, we have the answer! Why not go skiing and embrace the fresh air, the slopes, and the beautiful views? If you’re going to deal with cold weather, you might as well do it where there are loads of snow and skiing opportunities!
January is arguably the best time for skiing. After the holidays, the slopes are quiet, there are shorter lines at the ski lifts, and there are some great deals when it comes to accommodation! Travel is also cheaper with fewer people at the airports, so there is a wide range of flights available at more reasonable prices. The next perk is lots of snow! Snow in January is very reliable in the Alps, so there will be loads of fresh powder and you could even find fresh tracks.
In January, après skiing will also be cheaper. Bars have offers and discounts to encourage you to eat and drink in January when it’s quieter. This will make a big difference to your ski holiday, as this is where the expenditure can really rack up! Lots of young people head to large party resorts such as Val Thorens, Val d’Isere, and St. Anton to make the most of the cheaper prices.
The final reason why it’s great to ski in January is that you can welcome in the New Year surrounded by beautiful snowy mountains. You can enjoy a great night out, or simply enjoy the evening with your family and friends if partying isn’t for you. How about a New Year’s Day ski? Celebrate the new year in style.
There are many resorts which are fabulous in January, but we’ve picked out a couple for you.
La Clusaz in France is great for getting rid of those January blues. Just an hour from Geneva airport, it’s ideal for a short break if you need to get away. The village is charming with lots of mountain culture, wooden chalets, and a beautiful 19th-century church. There are also some great restaurants and bars. When it comes to skiing, there are five linked mountains and 125km of pistes. The area gets plenty of snow, especially in January and it’s so popular, it has a loyal fanbase of returning skiers. Why not go check it out yourself? Take a look at the La Clusaz chalets on ChaletFinder.
Les Arcs is linked by lift to La Plagne, meaning there are plenty of pistes to explore. There are lots of trees, which come in handy when skiing in January. This means it’s weather proof, perfect for January when there’s heavy snowfall. If there is less snow cover, you can ski on the high altitude slopes where there’s always snow, so you get the best of both worlds. Views over the valley to the resort of La Rosière and to Mont Blanc are stunning. Check out our chalets in Les Arcs on ChaletFinder now.
