The mountains are a hive of activity in the summer with a whole host of exciting things to do. Aside from the usual hiking and biking there are music festivals, motor bike rallies, sports competitions and exhibitions where you can get involved and try something new. Check out our round up of ‘What’s On’ this summer but remember, this is just a snippet!

The biggest musical event in Bulgaria! The concerts are free to the public and the bands playing cover almost all types of Jazz. With the concerts starting nightly from 7pm this gives you ample time to take in some of the beautiful sites of Bansko and the surrounding areas. Hiking, relaxing and mountain biking are just some of the activities available!
Bansko International Jazz Festival
Chamonix Valley – From the relaxing to the super extreme, the valley is alive with events and activities during the summer months.
This epic event brings the worlds best trail running athletes to run the trails of the Chamonix valley. The Marathon du Mont Blanc comprises of 8 races ranging from the children’s 800m/3km race to the 80km and the KM Vertical du Mont-Blanc.
The Ultra Trail Mont Blanc brings the worlds trail running enthusiasts together in Chamonix for 5 events. Penned as ‘A Mythical Race, A Unique Experience’ the race brings thousands of people to Chamonix each year creating a fantastic atmosphere.
UTMB Chamonix
Les Arcs & Bourg St Maurice – A fantastic and picturesque town linked with a stunning mountain resort.
This classical music festival is in its 44th year with this years focus being on Italian music. With concerts and workshops available this festival has it all for the classical music lover.
This fun American style bike relay takes you through the streets and lanes of Bourg St Maurice and promises surprises and obstacles along the way! A super fun Mountain Bike show!
This new event on the Les Deux Alpes summer calendar celebrates a whole host of outdoor pursuits with exhibitions and events. The Outdoor Festival showcases paragliding, slack lining, high lining, mountain biking, skiing, golf and trail running (and that’s not all!). You can try your hand at something new or just spectate and enjoy the parties and concerts arranged in the evening. As if this is not enough, Les Deux Alpes Glacier is open for snow sports from June 24th to September 2nd 2017 so you can head on up and make some turns before checking out the festival!

Les Gets, Portes du Soleil – Crankworx – June 14th – 18th 2017
Crankworx visited Les Gets for the first time last summer and will be returning again this year. The Crankworx world tour visits New Zealand, Canada, Austria and France bringing world class mountain biking to the masses. The event itself in Les Gets is exciting to watch, with the famous ‘Whip-off’ competition sending the crowd into a frenzy! Showcasing Slopestyle, Downhill and …Cheese Rolling (?!) this mountain bike event has it all! Dance away the night and ride away the day…
Les Gets – Crankworx
Morzine, Portes du Soleil – A busy place in the summer months with many events bringing people into the town. With it’s warm sunny days it’s a great place to take part in one of the following events!
The 14th edition of this epic mountain bike event crossing France and Switzerland. Register now to experience this 80km circuit with 6000m of downhill and 9 different resorts! Stay in Les Gets, Morzine, Avoriaz or Chatel.
The bi-annual meeting of the Harley Owners group visits Morzine once again. If you like huge motorbikes, having a drink and listening to music then this is the event for you! Come on over and see The Original Blue Brothers Band playing in the middle of the village, do a little shopping and maybe even take a Harley out for a test drive!
Spartan Race – July 1st – 2nd 2017
The Reebok Spartan Race is not for the faint hearted! With 4 different courses in and around Morzine you can take part in the ultimate obstacle course. Choose from the Sprint (3-5 miles), Super (8-10 miles), Beast (12-14 miles) or the Ultra Beast (26+ miles) and there is even one for the Juniors! If you want to come along you can register until June 30th 2017 or just come along and spectate, it’s a feast for the eyes!
For the last 20 years Morzine has hosted this key stage in the French Automobile Championships. Ogle at fast cars in the village or station yourself on one of the mountain roads to watch the races! It’s pretty exhilarating and very loud!!
Billed as a counter movement to the major music festivals, this festival in the woods will make a great addition to anyone’s holiday! The aim is to create a more intimate atmosphere between the musicians and festival goers and whilst you are there you can also get back in touch with nature with some hiking or climbing, mountain biking or rafting.
