If you’re thinking about your next ski holiday, we can imagine part of what is on your mind is the cost. Ski holidays aren’t the cheapest option, however there are ways to keep the cost down and also have a great holiday. Here are a few tips on how to keep to keep your ski holiday expenses lower.
Find group discounts – It’s easy to find group discounts when going on a ski holiday, and it means you’ll get a great price. Many chalets and resorts offer big discounts for groups and families, which means that heading on holiday with others is a great idea financially as you can split the cost. Check out the Special Offers we have on ChaletFinder.
Destination – Some destinations are less expensive than others. The best thing is to do your research and see which resort would best suit your needs. Are you bringing children on the holiday? Are you looking for après-ski, or a certain altitude? These can all be factors which will impact the cost of a resort, or cost different amounts in different areas. Demand, and prestige of the slopes also affect price. It all depends on what you want to prioritise.
Type of accommodation – There are lots of different types of accommodation; hotels, catered chalets, self-catered chalets, and apartments. Each have their own advantages. A catered chalet is a good option as all costs are included, and self-catered is great if you want to buy and cook your own food most of the time. However, don’t rule out all accommodation types until you’ve had a look online at what deals you might be able to get.
Time of year – Of course, sometimes it’s unavoidable, but you can choose to go on holiday in quieter periods. School holidays, Christmas, New Year and Easter are all times when the prices will go up, because this is when everyone wants to go on holiday. This includes chalets, and flights. If you’re looking for a less expensive ski holiday, go mid-term (but we know this is easier said than done!).
Food and Drink – Finally, food and drink is where costs can creep up on you. You buy lunch on the pistes, maybe go to après, then go out for dinner, and before you know it you’ve spent way more than you wanted to. The best way to avoid this is to go to the local supermarket, and eat meals in your chalet, or pack your lunch. A catered chalet is also a good option, as meals will be included.
So to conclude, research, research, research! Check out the Destinations we have now on ChaletFinder.
